Cobleskill Regional Hospital’s Short-Stay Rehabilitation Program offers comprehensive, short-term in-patient care for patients who do not require hospitalization in an acute medical unit but are unable to recover from an injury or illness at home. Patients and families often turn to this program following a brief hospital stay or in place of full-scale hospitalization for a major health problem.  Our professional staff encourages continuing recovery and assists patients with returning to a more independent level of functioning. We work one-on-one with patients to provide a comprehensive program of rehabilitation.

Patients in our Short-Stay Rehabilitation Program also benefit from the comprehensive resources of our full-service hospital, including on-site radiology and laboratory service, plus access to physician specialists for medically necessary consults. Physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy are available five days a week.

The Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Patients in the Short-Stay Rehabilitation Program are admitted to the hospital’s Progressive Care Unit, where the strength of the program is our team of highly qualified professionals. Patients and their families can take comfort in knowing that the same highly qualified professionals treat our acutely hospitalized patients and our short-stay rehab patients. Nurses, doctors, nursing assistants, physical therapists, and occupational therapists tailor each patient’s care to address the complexity of his or her needs. The PCU is located adjacent to the hospital’s inpatient unit

Family Involvement
The program’s professional team works closely with patients and their families to coordinate each patient’s clinical program and treatment plan. Families are encouraged to participate in therapy and all aspects of care.

About Medicare Coverage
Many of the patients in the Short-Stay Rehabilitation Program are over age 65 and have healthcare coverage through Medicare. In general, patients who qualify for Medicare coverage of short-term rehabilitation:

  • Have been hospitalized for 3 or more nights within the past 30 days
  • Have partially recovered
  • Require skilled care on a daily basis

Skilled care can include the need for intravenous medication, complex wound care and dressing changes, post-surgical followup care, monitoring of new/changed medications, and rehabilitative therapies for strengthening and endurance

Other health insurance plans may also cover a stay for short-stay rehabilitation. It is always best to check with the insurer.

We encourage you to pay us a visit to see our program in person.
